Every parrot deserves the best and keeping a bird in captivity means we need to offer them as much stimulation and chance to chew and shred as possible.

Scarletts Parrot Essentials has hundreds of chewable bird toys and shredding bird toys for all species of parrots and parakeets.

Chewable bird toys often have materials such as wicker, vine and cardboard. Our shredding bird toys are available from as little as £3 and we have over 200 toys available to choose from.

You can create your own shredding bird toys using our foraging boxes and filling them with treats and crinkle paper, birds just love crinkle paper and we have many toys with it in and also crinkle paper available to buy in packets to refill shreddable bird toys.

The Happy Pet Shred It Bird toy is very popular with Amazon Parrots, Pionus, African Greys and medium bird types.

Providing your bird with toys to shred and chew will help prevent boredom which can lead to unwanted behaviours such as screaming and feather plucking. Responsible bird owners understand the importance of providing bird toys in the cage and creating an environment a bird can be safe and happy in. Some species of pet birds will prefer chewing bird toys more than others given their inquisitive nature while some more timid birds will take time to get used to new bird toys.

The cheapest bird toys are often the most popular, Harley our Severe Macaw loves the stacks of shredding toys which have wooden slices along with cardboard slices, these help his overgrown beak to stay trim and when he is left in his bird cage he enjoys to chew his toys to keep him busy until we get home and he is allowed time out of the cage.

We hang toys from the ceiling for our birds so that they have extra opportunities to chew and shred. They would spend several hours a day doing this in the wild so we like to give them the opportunity here in the home environment.

Adding shredding bird toys into the cage can be messy! They end up in pieces on the cage floor but this is a sign your bird is enjoying the toys and doing what comes naturally.
