Caring for green cheeked conures

Green-cheeked conures are outgoing and comical birds, but they can also be a little shyer than other conures. These beautiful birds love their play and will appreciate a good rotation of toys and a large cage to run around.

They are so similar in appearance that they are often identified incorrectly by pet stores or even their owners.

Green-cheeked conure can be found in the wild in Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina and Paraguay, where it resides amongst the forests and woodland areas.

Green cheeked conures are small parrots with huge personalities. They are native to South America, and even though they are not unusual birds in the larger scheme of things, a few bird lovers own them.

The first thing you need to know about your conure is that it requires a lot of attention.

Conures can also become very attached to one person and can be aggressive with other people. You need to bear these things in mind if you are considering this type of bird and you have a family.

Conure Food

Green-cheeked conures love to eat food items like berries, yams, small chicken bones, and dinner with you right off your plate. You can also give your birds mixed veggies, thawed with hot water, and then drained. Check out some of our top-notch conure food here.

Make provisions for clean water at least once a day. Twice a day is better because they like to dip dry foods and they spit in their water. You need to keep the water clean because they also bathe in it.

If you don’t want your bird to smell like vomit, then you need to keep the water clean because they also bathe in it.

Conure Toys

Toys provide lots of entertainment that help your conure combat boredom especially if they will be left alone quite often. Conures can quickly master each toy given to them and grow bored, which can be frustrating for both you and your Conure.

Toys should be a staple item in any birdcage, but not all toys are created equal. Toys serve a lot of functions for your pet. Make sure your conure’s cage is fully stocked with toys to ensure both their mental and physical well-being

Conure Healthcare

When taking care of your pet, never use scented candles or oils, air fresheners, or caustic cleaners when you are around your birds. Do not even use an oven cleaner to clean your oven while your bird is in the house. Another thing to watch out for is Teflon. Teflon in any form is toxic to birds. If you have a room heater, make sure it's ceramic, not Teflon. Keep your bird out of the kitchen in case you are using Teflon pans. Make sure you use vinegar to clean your bird’s cage and accessories. Make sure everything is rinsed and triple rinsed before using again.

Green Cheek Conure Care Does and Don'ts

Ensure you tell other people to give your green cheek conure time to warm up to them. Green cheek conures are fiercely loyal birds but can get used to other people with time. Do not give your bird grit. Even though birds need it; however, for your green cheek conure, it can be a deadly addition to the food dish.

Do Green Cheek Conures Speak?

Many bird owners admire the green cheek for its relative quietness compared to other conures. It is not loud or frequent in its calling, but it usually makes some noise. Green-cheeked conures have been known to talk, and some can learn quite a few words, but they are commonly not prized for their chatting abilities.
