How to exercise your pet parrot

How to exercise your pet parrot

As a bird owner, exercise should be an important part of your pet parrot's everyday routine.

This is because exercise prevents your parrot from getting overweight but also helps in the alleviation of boredom and makes it happier and less likely to be mischievous.

Pastimes like walking, wing beating, climbing, and wing beating can build up excitement in their lives and also help in creating a stronger bond between you and your pet.

Before you begin an exercise procedure with your parrot, ensure you bear the following in mind;

  • Ensure your parrot is in good health. Do not stress an already ill bird
  • Consult with your vet on your proposed exercise plan before you proceed
  • Make sure your parrots are being fed with a good all-round diet of a high-quality seed mix supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Have a phrase or word that you use to signal that you can begin, such as “Ready?”

Below are some ways you could help your pet pigeon exercise;

Climbing Exercise:

Encourage your parrot to go up the stairs in your home regularly. This will help to build strong legs and feet for your parrots

 If you don’t possess any stairs, you could buy some Parrot's Ladders, Swings & Bridges here then attach them to the ceiling.

Beating their Wings

To do this, place your parrot on your arm. Ensure their feet are secured with your hand if they are new to this form of exercise, as you don’t want them falling off. Move your hand slowly upwards and downwards to motivate them to flap their wings.

You can also move your parrot in a circle at the same time to make the workout more stimulating.

Playing Games with your parrot

You can be as creative as you want with this one! You could try and test some games like getting your parrot to chase something on a piece of string, hide some objects in a drawer and ask them to find them or catch a lightweight object.

Taking a Walk

Another way you could help your pet parrot exercise is by putting it on your shoulder while you walk around the house and do some housework. While doing this, you could Chat with it at the same time. This will definitely improve the bonding process between you both and even help you burn a few extra calories during the process.
