Where To Keep Parrot Cage & Other Questions Answered

Where to position your birds cage really depends on your lifestyle and family, along with the type of bird you have.

We are often asked can a parrot live without a cage. The simple answer is no. A cage is a safe place to leave your bird where he has access to food, water and safe perching areas. Flying free in the home is recommended with supervision.

Going back to the question of where to put a parrot cage…think about your birds need to be part of the family, if you put the cage in a room on its own the bird is likely to scream when he hears the rest of his flock – ie you!

A parrot cage is a place your bird can call home, how big a parrot cage depends on your bird. The legal minimum requires your bird to be able to fully stretch his wings. The bigger the cage the better with the exception of African Greys who often panic if the space is too large. Something the size of the Rainforest Santos Dome Top is the biggest you should offer a Grey. The most popular African Grey cage is the Rainforest Santa Marta II

Position your cage against a wall, this often makes the bird feel more secure and a nice view out of the window can be stimulating, ensuring the bird is not in direct sunlight for too long over heating.

Why cover a parrots cage at night – well quite simply your bird needs 12 hours solid sleep in complete darkness in order to function properly and process the calcium in his body. Covering the cage stops drafts and gives your bird the quiet time he needs to sleep. Our cage covers are breathable, cleanable and stop drafts. https://www.scarlettsparrotessentials.co.uk/bird-parrot-cages/bird-cage-covers

Many of our cages are available in Antique finish, a dark gun metal grey which gives a very smart finish and off sets well against light furnishings or a Stone finish which is a contemporary light grey which many people feel shows the bird off nicely. Whichever finish you choose your birds safety is paramount.

How to clean a parrot cage is something which is very important for the welfare of your bird. Our powder coated finish is smooth rather than grainy like some cheap alternatives. Wiping droppings from the smooth surface is much easier. A damp cloth will do this from the cage bars. The cage tray can be lined with paper which is easily thrown away daily.

Pots are to be removed and cleaned. The cage can be wiped with our F10 veterinary solution to kill harmful pathogens. These solutions (unlike standard household cleaners) are safe to use around your pets.  https://www.scarlettsparrotessentials.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=f10
