How to care for a sick parrot

When your parrot falls sick, it is crucial to give your pet proper care so it can recuperate and feel better as soon as possible. You can do this in part by removing elements that could make your parrot sick, such as germs and waste in its cage.

Also, make sure your pet bird is kept as comfortable as possible so it can focus its energy on healing and staving off its illness. It's also important to know when the bird needs veterinary care, such as if you care for your bird properly and it just doesn't seem to get better.

Caring For Your Bird

  • Keep Your Pet Bird Comfortable

Making sure your sick pet parrot is kept warm is important when helping it get over an ailment. You can tell that your pet is cold if it fluffs up its feathers to trap warm air next to its body. If your pet is doing this, place a heat lamp in its cage, a hot water bottle or a heating pad at the bottom of its body.

Keep the temperature around 90 °F (32 °C).

Check the temperature by fixing a thermometer in the cage every few hours or by hanging one outside the cage.

Remember to give your pet Vitamins And Supplements.

  • Give your bird diffused sunlight

Don't move your pet parrot's cage to another space in order to accomplish this. Sunlight can be very helpful for your bird. Open shades that are normally kept drawn or shift the bird's cage slightly so you can get it to a brighter spot easily.

  •  Ensure your parrot's home is humid by keeping a vaporizer or humidifier in its cage.

If your parrot has a respiratory illness, keep it in a humid environment. This will help it breathe easier and also keep its airways moist. Put the vaporizer or humidifier near the pet's cage and keep it on all day and night. You can get a humidifier by purchasing Health Accessories from our stores.

  • Move your parrot's perch to a low spot in the cage or remove it altogether.

Your pet has an increased chance of falling when it is sick. The anxiety from falling a large distance and possible injury is not nice for your bird. To prevent this from happening, move the perch so it is  1–2 inches off the ground. If your parrot falls off its perch, even if the perch is in a very low position, this is an indication that your parrot needs immediate veterinary care. You could get Sprays and Health Blocks here.

  • Eliminate threats by replacing your pet's food to ensure that it doesn't cause further ailment.

When your parrot falls sick, remove all food items from its cage. This should include millet sprays, seeds, fruits, and food dropped at the bottom of the cage.

A common factor that leads to your pet's illness is bad food,  due to contamination, so buy new food and put it in the bird's cage.

  • Keep your parrot's cage very clean by cleaning out the bottom of your cage every day, removing seed and waste that your pet may have dropped on the floor of its cage.

This can be done by replacing the liner on the bottom of the cage and applying disinfectants to the bottom of the cage with a bird-safe cleaner before keeping a new liner in disinfecting the bottom of the cage with a bird-safe cleaner before keeping a new liner in.

  • Reduce the stress your parrot may have to go through to keep it relaxed and content.
